Setting Up a PowerBI Integration

In this article, learn how to set up the PowerBI integration in SMM and how you can use it to export Publish and Measure data.

The PowerBI integration allows Social Media Management (SMM) Admins to export Measure and Publish data for users from SMM. You can export a maximum of 40 Measure metrics and 40 Publish metrics for 60 channels you have connected to SMM.

Setting up the integration in SMM

To start setting up the integration, complete the following steps in SMM:

  1. Navigate to Manage settings (cog icon) > Organization admin.

  2. Select Integration marketplace in the left-hand navigation sidebar.

  3. Click on the PowerBI tile.

  4. On the Integration Details page, click Connect Now in the top-right corner.

  5. On the Disclaimer page, click Next.

  6. Add a Connection Name, then click Save and Continue.

  7. Select the channels you would like to connect (maximum of 60), then select the Channel and Content metrics you would like to export (maximum of 40 each). Click Next when ready.

  8. Check your setup summary, then click Finish.

  9. The Connections Manager page will open and provide you REST API URLs to copy and paste to PowerBI. Click Copy next to your channel metrics and content metrics to copy the URLs to your clipboard and paste them into a notepad for easy access.

Note: We recommend copying and pasting the URLs for channel metrics and content metrics separately.

  10. As a final step, we recommend copying your SMM API key to your clipboard as well and pasting it temporarily into a notepad for easy access since you will need it to complete the PowerBI connection. Visit our article on Getting Access to Social Media Management APIs for instructions to obtain your SMM API key.

Connecting the integration in PowerBI

To finish connecting the integration, complete the following steps in PowerBI:

  1. In PowerBI, click + Create in the left-hand menu.

  2. Click on Get Data and search for “web API”.
