Instagram Mentions and Tags
Mention
There are several instances in which you may receive a mention on Instagram:
- If a user mentions your Instagram account in the text/caption of a post or reel.
- If a user mentions your Instagram account in a post/reel comment (or comment reply).
- If a user mentions your Instagram account in a story (delivered as direct message).
Tag
If a user tags your Instagram account in the overlay of an image or a video, rather than in the text/caption of a post/reel or a comment, it will be considered a tag.
Instances of the above will appear in Engage. However, due to restrictions on Instagram's API, it will not be possible to display mentions or tags coming from promoted posts.
Tip:
Find out more about mentioning and tagging on Instagram from Instagram's Help Center.
How Can I Interact with Mentions/Tags?
Both Instagram mentions and Instagram tags will be displayed in Engage if your Engage Feed is configured to include the content type: Mentions. Find out how to set up your Engage feed to include Instagram mentions and tags in the Getting Set Up section below.
Mentions
If your Instagram Account was mentioned in the text (caption) of a post or reel, it will be displayed in your Engage feed. You can click the reply arrow to leave a comment on the post/reel. You cannot see or reply to any other comments on the post/reel (unless your channel was also tagged in the comment too, as noted below).
If your Instagram account was mentioned only in a comment or comment reply of any post or reel, it will be displayed in your Engage feed. You can click the reply arrow to reply to the comment you were mentioned in, but you will not be able to leave a comment on the post/reel, nor see or reply to other comments on the post/reel.
Note:
Please bear in mind that if you are mentioned in a comment reply (but not the original/parent comment), it will not be possible to see the parent comment or any other replies. The comment reply will appear in Social Media Management as a standalone comment.
Tags
If your Instagram account was tagged only in the image/video of a post/reel, the post will be displayed in Engage. However, it will not be possible to either comment on the post/reel, or see and reply to other comments.
Note:
If your Instagram account was both tagged in an image/video and mentioned in the post/reel text, you can leave a comment on the post/reel. You will not be able to see or reply to other comments on the post/reel unless mentioned in the comment.
